Cattle Eye emerged from the pursuit
of a completely hardware free method
of monitoring dairy cows.

The early research

CattleEye's technology is grounded in computer vision and machine learning research developed for livestock monitoring. From the outset, the goal was scientific rigour alongside practical usability. Early validation, published in journals like the Frontiers in Veterinary Science, showed that the system achieved mobility scores comparable to experienced veterinarians, with inter-rater agreement consistently above 80%. A subsequent study across 11 commercial UK dairy farms, published in the Journal of Dairy Science, confirmed the system's performance in real-world conditions - it found CattleEye outperformed human assessors when daily data was accumulated over time.

Growing with the farms that trusted us

CattleEye began in the UK and Ireland where lameness affects 30% of herds and where labour is scarce and costly. At the same time, welfare assurance frameworks rightly demand high standards proven via objective, auditable evidence. Our early customers confirmed what the research had suggested - consistent daily scoring changes behaviour, improves outcomes, and pays for itself. From herds of 200 to operations managing more than 6,000 cattle, the system proved it could scale. CattleEye has now analysed tens of millions of lameness checks to date and is now present in 23 countries around the globe

2024: Partnership with GEA

In March 2024, CattleEye was acquired by GEA, one of the world's largest manufacturers of dairy farming equipment. The partnership gives CattleEye access to GEA's global distribution network and customer base - accelerating adoption across Europe, North America, and beyond.
GEA's decision to partner with CattleEye confirmed that the technology had reached a level of accuracy and reliability that one of the sector's most experienced operators was prepared to come in behind it.

Our Mission

To provide the next generation of ruminant livestock monitoring solutions improving the lives of farmers and their livestock. We plan to bring to market the first autonomous livestock monitoring system for ruminant livestock based on video analytics powered by deep learning Artificial Intelligence.

Culture

The CattleEye team comprise of some seriously clever animal welfare experts, data scientists and application developers. We try to best harness those skills by providing a fun, agile team working environment making sure to leave room for a work life balance. We make sure all our team have regular farm visits to ensure they understand how real dairy farmers operate.

Where we are now

CattleEye is now expanding across Europe and into the US and LATAM markets, adapting its platform for new languages, regulatory frameworks, and herd management contexts. The science that underpins the system continues to develop, including breakthrough research with the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding showing that lameness has a heritable component - opening the door to the possibility of breeding lameness out of herds… all enabled via CattleEye data.

Our Team

CattleEye is a small team with a mission to support animal welfare and support farm businesses. The leadership team drives the product, the commercial strategy, and the science. The customer success team makes sure every farm that deploys CattleEye gets the most out of it from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CattleEye?

black arrow

CattleEye is hardware-free AI that monitors every cow's mobility and body condition daily using standard cameras above your milking parlour exit. It spots lameness and body condition changes before they become costly problems.

How does it work?

black arrow

CattleEye identifies individual cows by body shape and coat pattern as they pass under the camera. No tags or wearables needed.

How long does installation take?

black arrow

Most farms are up and running in a few hours. A technician mounts the cameras, connects to your network, and you're done.

Do I need special equipment?

black arrow

No. CattleEye uses standard 2D cameras and works with your existing IT setup.
